Ice, Ice, Baby
Luciana took her first turns around the ice this past weekend at a friends and family event of the Madison LGBT hockey league at Madison Ice Arena. First of all, we must say that the itty-bitty skates for her feet here ADORABLE, but it definitely took some work getting them on her feet. (She was more focused on the pictures of mascots on the walls than in helping push her feet into the skates.) Then it was out to the ice we go. We should preface this by saying that Elisa can skate ok (by no means a figure skater) and Carolyn in the past just tries really hard not to fall down. We got one of those push walker things to help Luciana steady herself, and Elisa stood behind her to "help". By "help" we mean that she pretty much held Luciana up and kept her balance and kept the walker moving by pushing it and Luci at the same time. Carolyn flew past them, setting a record for NOT falling down and skating at least four or five laps on the ice. After one lap around, Elisa decided she couldn't hack it as a skating instructor, and changed into hockey skates which felt MUCH better. We took Luciana around one more time, but our dear friend (and amazing skater) Joanna helped out immensely by skating around with her. Luciana enjoyed being out on the ice, but did not really understand the concept of keeping her feet straight or pushing off on the ice. Oh well- at least it was a great way to introduce her to something new!
